10 Last Minute Mother’s Day Gifts for Geocachers

Seriously, at least twice a week I make a comment about how fast time goes. Can you believe next weekend is Mother’s Day already? That means we’re only a few weeks away from this year being half over. How does that happen? Yes, I know, we’ve been busy geocaching (and other stuff). But if you’re like me, that means you don’t yet have a gift for that special geocaching mother in your life. I’ve tried to help you out and put together a list of a few items that will be sure to make her day! She’ll think you put a lot of thought and effort into it, and no one will know you really got the idea from some crazy geocacher’s online blog. Your secret is safe! Here are 10 last minute Mother’s Day gifts for geocachers.

1. Premium subscription to geocaching.com

Give her the gift of year-long fun with a gift subscription to geocaching.com. Even if she’s already a Premium Member, extend that membership for her so she doesn’t even have to think about renewing when the time comes. She’ll definitely appreciate it. I know I would.

2. Premium subscription to project-gc.com

Project-GC is an incredibly powerful tool with tons of useful features to help you with stats, challenges, route planning, etc. Add to that a premium membership, and those tools just got even better. Premium features include multi user map compare, virtual GPS, route builder, custom filters, and more! I don’t even blink when it comes time to renew my subscription to Project-GC every year. As an added bonus, if you use this link to purchase a membership, you will get an extra two months at no extra cost!

3. GPS Receiver

Maybe she’s hinted that she’d really like a handheld GPS receiver. Surprise her with one! I mean, sometimes geocaching with our phones just isn’t realistic. This Garmin Oregon 650t is pretty popular. It’s middle of the road as far as price goes and has lots of features. It even has a built in camera! Of course there are lots of other options out there as well, so check them out and find one that she’ll love.

4. OtterBox Phone Case

I comment all the time how crazy we all are carrying around these mini computers, taking them into the woods, climbing trees with them in our back pockets. We need some serious protection on those babies! I love the OtterBox phone cases! I’ve had one on my last 5 phones, and I’m sure I’ll get another one for the next phone. I’m pretty rough on my phone, mostly because of geocaching, and I’ve never had an issue with the Otterbox case. I’ve even left my phone behind at a cache where it sat for almost an hour in the snow!

5. Caching Bag

Every cacher needs a caching bag. Whether you take it into the woods with you or just leave it in the car, it should always be stocked with supplies. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy; it just needs to be comfortable and large (or small) enough to hold anything you might need while you’re out geocaching. I just got this nice Columbia back pack. It’s lightweight and fits comfortably, yet it’s large enough to hold everything I need. I always carry a pack into the woods and take it along on bike trails. And when I’m not out geocaching, it stays in my car in case I need it.

6. Walking stick

A good walking stick is very valuable if she spends a lot of time in the woods. One like this Earthtrekgear collapsible hiking pole will conveniently fold up to fit in her caching bag. Or maybe she’d like a more natural look like this Brazos wood walking stick. Then head on over to Shop Geocaching and get a trackable medallion to add to her wood walking stick! She’ll be discoverable everywhere she goes!

7. Telescopic Ladder

No one’s Tools of the Trade collection is complete without a telescopic ladder. We got one a few years ago, and let me tell you – it makes those tree climbs a breeze! I can’t tell you how many D-5 caches we’ve turned into D-2. The ladder we have is very similar to this one. It’s easy to put up, and easy to put down. And it even comes with a carrying case.

8. Subscription to FTF Geocacher Magazine

Did you know there’s a geocaching magazine? FTF Geocacher Magazine is published six times per year and is written for geocachers by geocachers. FTF offers practical advice, hints & tips, cacher bios & milestones, geocaching events, trail tales, and all things geo-related. It’s a gift she can enjoy all year long.

9. Food containers

Any other mother might question your sanity if you give her food containers as a Mother’s Day gift. But your geocaching mother will love it! Lock & Lock containers make great geocaches! Add some Duck Tape and a Rite in the Rain notebook to those babies, and you’re ready to go! Of course, if she’s more of an old school cacher, I’m sure she’d love some ammo cans  like this plastic one or like this heavy duty metal one.

10. Subscription to Ipsy

I’ll admit it. I’m not very girly. I don’t know much about fashion or makeup. But that doesn’t mean I don’t want to look good! So I subscribe to a monthly beauty box called Ipsy. For just $10 a month, I get a super cute makeup bag containing 5 beauty products tailored to my profile. The bag and the products are different every month, and I love that I get to try out so many new products. Even if she’s more girly that I am, she’s sure to love the variety of products and the surprise in the mailbox every month.

There you go! You really can’t go wrong with any of these items on the list. I’m a mom and a geocacher, and I would loveto receive any of them as a gift, whether it’s Mother’s Day, my birthday, or just any day! Let me know what you got her and how much she loved it. Quit reading this already, and get buying! You’re running out of time!
